The Primordial Force

If there is a god, she was in one of the rooms at S:t Göran's maternity ward giving birth to a new child into the world today. She was simultaneously in the room next door, and in all other birth rooms around the world.

She is the primal force, Mother Earth and life itself, uncontrollable in her wildest form. Threatened and hated by the patriarchy, which has tried to control and pathologize women's bodies, sexuality, and emotional intelligence for thousands of years.

We have been indoctrinated to believe that it is anti-feminist to honor women's cycles and ability to carry, birth, and nourish their child, since such things are considered to make her a "slave to biology."

But it's not biology that has enslaved us—it's the patriarchy. In a truly equal society, shouldn't we value our unique needs equally, and not force women to adopt misogynistic ideas and live separated from their bodies to get a seat at the table?

If one were to stop dancing to the patriarchy's tune, who would one be? And how much longer can we continue to be a cog in the capitalist machine?

In the room where I, as a doula, witnessed a new human being born today, the birthing woman stood squatting in the blue birthing pool. She actively birthed her child instead of letting herself be delivered. She roared decisively if something didn't feel right but was also very clear about what she needed. And the wonderful midwives respected her, supported her, and rested in trust of the body's ancient wisdom, which knows how to give birth healthily if only given the chance.

And she gave birth completely without complications. Just as with most things in life, our attitudes, fears, and behaviors affect how our children are born into the world. Instead of thinking "it will be what it will be," or "it is what it is," perhaps we can be curious about what a new approach to ourselves, each other, and the world could look like.

If we want to see real change, we must dare to rise from the ashes, shake off the old musty beliefs, and step into our divinity.🔥✨
